When looking for websites to sell your car locally, no one said you had to use websites that were located in your specific area.  Unless you live in a large city, it can actually be difficult to find a site that sells your car on a local level.  Instead, you should focus on finding websites that have local connections and listings. 

Start by visiting eBay.com, which is the home to the largest auction website in the world.  Their auto department allows you to sell your car and list it in your local area.  Users who search for available cars for sale in your area will find your vehicle listed.  You can also try CraigsList.com, if they have an available location in your area.  If not, you may want to list it in the closest city listed.

Another option is to list online using your local newspaper.  Most metropolitan newspapers have their own websites, as do smaller newspapers.  You can buy package deals that include a listing in the paper as well as on their website, or list solely on the website.

Differences

The main differences between the various websites relate to price.  Your local newspaper is often cheaper than eBay, while Craigs List lists your advertisement free.  You will also need to make a decision regarding space since newspaper sites only allow you to describe your vehicle in a small space.

With your local newspaper, you will find that the cost varies depending on the size of ad you want and the type of ad you want.  Most newspapers charge an additional fee for an image, and if you want to use several photographs, the fees may be quite high. 

A number of users are turning to eBay to sell their vehicle in their auto section.  However, it can be very expensive to use that website.  The site charges a basic fee for their standard listing, with additional fees rising if you want to increase advertising, or have your car listed in their showcase.  They also charge additional fees for more than one picture.  After the auction ends, you are also required to pay a percentage of the sale price to eBay and a set amount even if the car does not sell.

When listing your car online, look for websites that allow you the chance to customize your listings.  You will want to make the listing look more unique because that brings more potential customers to it.  Customers grow tired of looking at the same listings and are drawn to those that look a little different. 

You should be wary of using any site that requires you to pay a variety of fees following the initial payment.  Unscrupulous websites often require sellers to pay a number of undocumented fees once the listing begins.  Before listing your car at any website, do a little research to see what others had to say.
